Gallery Handout Statement
Below is the full text of the one-sheet available at the Axiom gallery. Validation codes will be written in hand and will give individuals extra "weight" in any online contributions.
WIKAKE (WIKI-CAKE)
wikake.ravijain.org
There is a trend towards open-source collaboration aided by new media and networking. Wikis allow users to edit and correct content. Blogs build communities by fostering comments and discussion. Video blogs and mash-ups are made possible through the sharing of intellectual properties, as evidenced by such systems as Creative Commons.
The exact flavor and style of the Wikake will be determined through an online collaborative process during the run of the show. I’ve set up a Wikake blog (or "Wikaklog") that will allow individuals to shape the nature of the cake collaboratively at wikake.ravijain.org
This will happen in four stages during the run of the show:
Stage One: (November 3)
Base cake and filling.
Stage Two: (November 10)
Cake form/style and frosting/glaze.
Round Three: (November 17)
Decoration and garnishes.
Round Four: (November 24)
Unveiling of the Wikake!
Each stage will have a blog update that will include video from the cooks, which will include myself, my wife and my professional consultant, Arpoo Shah, owner and proprietor of SweeTamarind. I will also incorporate into our blog entries any suggestions or comments from individuals (text, image, video).
Blog visitors will be able to vote for each stage and leave comments, but gallery visitors can take cards each with a unique code that they can use to enter their informed comments on the web site. These inputs will be weighted significantly higher (since these people will actually be tasting the samples).
